By James Asudi(CEO – Victoria Safaris)

Tourism is a dynamic profession and an ever changing field. I ever in tourism” despite several cancellations of already booked and confirmed trips in the African continent. With the diminishing numbers of wildlife due to global warming and human / wildlife conflict for the limited natural resources, Victoria safaris is putting its effort in creating New Africa Mountain hiking packages, Beach Holidays and Bush Safaris, Community and Cultural tourism packages and Adventure Travel in the Eastern Horn of the African continent which includes; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. These packages have limited visits to the Wildlife sanctuaries and are more oriented to the Communities living and co existing in the African wilderness.

Wildlife and Human Conflicts over Limited Natural Resources

World over, there is a shortage of land and water. This has resulted in human beings encroaching into the wildlife territory for land and water. God created man, Fauna and Flora and expected all to co exist on Earth. To day, man has over populated the earth and is destroying with impunity the Flora. The effect is that there is limited rain fall and as such in Africa, the destruction of tropical forests by man has led to serious famine and lack of water for the African populace and wildlife.

Imagine if the wildlife would be talking, in which court would we be sued on earth. Imagine if the wildlife had the ability to make ammunition to fight man, what world war would be on earth between the wildlife and humans? Let us respect our Fauna and Flora. The Laureate Prof. Wangare Mathai said; “If you destroy Nature, Nature will destroy you”

In view of the above, Victoria Safaris is encouraging Eco tourism in Africa and emphasizing in creation of new tourism packages leading to Africa Adventure Tours, Community and Cultural tourism plus beach holidays with limited visits into wildlife sanctuaries. Among the new packages that Victoria safaris have come with for the year 2009 and beyond include the following packages.

A restaurant located at the center of the Zoo serves both snacks and meals for the visitors and Kiosks provide drinks and other refreshments. The Zoo also has the Zoo Choo-Choo Tractor Train which tours you through different parts of the zoo. Plus, cable car rides allow you a breathtaking view of the zoo and the surrounding city. And the Zoovenir gives you a great variety of items to take home.

Cape Town owns magnificent beaches that have gained fame and popularity. Its Table Mountain grants you eye-popping views of its beaches and city. Revolving cable cars can bring you to this mountain which stands 1086 meters above sea level. The oyster capital of South Africa, Garden Route, supplies you with different fun activities including dolphin spotting. It also allows you free wine and cheese tasting. After all, it provides with some of the world’s best wine.

Port Elizabeth, found along the Algoa Bay, features several historical sites including the Historic Donkin Heritage trail that has an Old Hill area which covers 47 historical sites.
The African continent covers 30 million sq km (12 million sq mi), including its adjacent islands. It stretches 8,000 km (5,000 mi) from its northernmost point, Ra’s al Abya? in Tunisia, to its southernmost tip, Cape Agulhas in South Africa. The maximum width of the continent, measured from the tip of Cap Vert in Senegal, in the west, to Raas Xaafuun (Ras Hafun) in Somalia, in the east, is 7,500 km (4,700 mi). The highest point on the continent is the perpetually snowcapped Kilimanjaro (5,895 m/19,341 ft) in Tanzania, and the lowest is Lake ‘Asal (153 m/502 ft below sea level) in Djibouti.Africa is surrounded by oceans and seas: the Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Indian Ocean on the east, the Red Sea on the northeast, and the Mediterranean Sea on the north. Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, lies off the southeastern coast. Other offshore islands include the Madeira Islands, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, São Tomé, Príncipe, and Bioko, off the western coast; and the Comoros Islands, Seychelles, Mascarene Islands, and Socotra, off the eastern coast.

Africa generally consists of a series of flat and gently undulating plateaus occurring at different levels, broken by a few mountainous areas and by the rift valleys of East Africa. With a mean elevation of approximately 650 m (2,100 ft) above sea level, Africa is high compared to other continents. The southern and eastern section of the continent, often called High Africa, consists primarily of a high plateau with elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 m (3,000 and 7,000 ft) above sea level. Northern and western Africa, widely known as Low Africa, has much lower mean elevations. Most of the continent’s surface has been warped into a series of large, saucer-like basins separated by highlands. The major basins of Africa are El Djouf, now occupied by the Niger River Basin in West Africa; the Chad Basin, surrounding Lake Chad in west central Africa; the Sudan (or Nile River) Basin in northeast Africa; the Congo River Basin of Central Africa; and the Kalahari (or Okavango) Basin of southern Africa.a.

Africa’s other major mountainous regions occur at the northern and southern fringes of the continent. The Atlas Mountains, a system of high ranges, extend for 2,200 km (1,400 mi) across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, roughly parallel to the northern coast. These ranges enclose a number of broad inland basins and plateaus. In the west, the High (or Grand) Atlas contains Toubkal (4,165 m/ 13,665 ft), the highest peak of the system. Toward the east, the Atlas consists of two parallel ranges: the Tell Atlas to the north and the Saharan Atlas to the south.
The Drakensberg Mountains in eastern South Africa form part of the Great Escarpment, a ridge that divides the central plateau regions of southern Africa from the lowland regions on the coast. Extending from Limpopo Province south to the province of Eastern Cape, the Drakensbergrange contains the highest elevations in South Africa. For more storyhttp://africanslegends.blogspot.com

The Great Rift Valley is one of the most distinctive features of African topography. Formed where Earth’s crust is being pulled apart by the action of convection currents beneath the surface, rift valleys are long, deep valleys bounded by parallel faults, or fractures, in Earth’s crust. The Great Rift Valley system begins in Syria, in the Middle East, and extends southward, down the length of the Red Sea. It enters Africa at the Afar Depression on the coast of Eritrea and Djibouti, and winds some 5,600 km (3,500 mi) to the coast of southern Mozambique. In its middle section, it breaks into two major branches, the Eastern Rift Valley and the Western Rift Valley. The rift valley is flanked by towering escarpments of up to 1,000 m (3,000 ft) in southern Ethiopia, 1,500 m (4,900 ft) along the Eastern Rift in central Kenya, and 1,300 m (4,300 ft) in the northern part of the Western Rift, along the DRC’s border with Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. The southern extremities of the rift system are much less spectacular in size and appearance. For more information, see the Faulting and Rift Valleys section of this article.Several major lakes, typically long and narrow, are located on the floors of the Western and Eastern rift valleys. The Western Rift contains Lake Albert, Lake Edward, and Lake Kivu to the north, Lake Tanganyika in the middle, and Lake Malawi (Lake Nyasa) to the south. The lakes of the Eastern Rift tend to be smaller and include Lake Naivasha, Lake Natron, and the southern part of Lake Turkana.
Ever visited South Africa? It is a wonderful country with breathtakingly beautiful scenery, amazing wild life and a community of various ethnic groups living together. The people of South Africa share a rich culture and take great pains in passing it to the next generations.

South Africa is one country where dreams turn to reality. It is where nature is at its best. It showcases the ancient African heritage to its maximum. The cultural experiences of the South African community are definitely going to impress you a lot. The music, the wild life, the natural beauty and the friendly people are enough to make you dance in ecstasy to the tune of drums; the African drums.

What to Visit in South Africa?

South Africa has a lot to offer. It has mountains, safari parks, wonderful beaches and all you can imagine. Here are a few of the options.

Perhaps South Africa’s greatest assets are its 21 conservation areas or national parks, where you can watch the wild life in its natural habitat freely. It is surely going to be a memorable experience. Some of the more important national parks are as follows:

Addo Elephant National Park: It is a well known place to watch the elephants closely in their natural environment. And it gets better than this. You can see some great whales and white sharks as well. Talk about diversity!!!

Tankwa Karoo National Park: Located in the Northern Cape, it is a wonderful place to be if you wish to move away from crowds and enjoy nature at its best.

Mountain Zebra National Park: It is located in the Eastern Cape. As its name suggests, it is the conservation park for zebras, but not any kind of zebras. These are special zebras particularly adaptable to the mountainous area.

Camdeboo National Park: Located in the Eastern Cape, it is comparatively newer and this park showcases South Africa’s true heritage really well.

Golden Gate Highlands National Park: It is ideal for bird and animal watching as well as for adventuring.

The Garden Route: Covering an area of about 600 km from Cape Town, the garden route is home to several towns and villages, farms and wineries and is the ideal place to view the South African community at its best. Friendly and extremely hospitable, they are going to make a lasting impression on you.

Kruger National Park: Home to pride of South Africa, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, lions and leopards, this park is all for the nature lovers.

Table Mountain: Table Mountain is probably the most wonderful scenes of South Africa; a place not to be missed.

People of South Africa

The dearest of all assets of South Africa are its people. People from various tribes live together in harmony. Zulu, Xhosa, Mapungubwe, Venda, Shangaan, Ndebele, Swazi and the San, these are the famous tribes of South Africa. The South African people are not only proud of their heritage; they are possessive about it and take great efforts in preserving it.
As any traveller knows, care hire is the best way to enjoy a self-drive holiday across South Africa. Hiring a car makes it quick and simple for any traveller to get around the country without having to worry about unreliable public transport, lack of lifts or reliance on anyone other than yourself and your travel partner. With so much to see and do in South Africa, it is no wonder than so many visitors arriving from all over the world choose to hire a car to navigate the country on their own steam, enjoying the journey and sights they witness along the way, before arriving at their destination.

There are many benefits to hiring a car and taking the self-drive route, all of which make your holiday much more of an adventure. Here are some of the top reasons to consider car hire in South Africa:

Choose your own adventure

Plan your trip to suit your needs, and create the tour of your dreams. Cape Town to Garden Route, Durban to Johannesburg, Wine Route to Cape Point… anything is possible with self-drive. Discover some of the many attractions that South Africa has to offer, and set off on a tour to see as many as you can. Table Mountain, Plettenberg Bay, Jefferies Bay or Coffee Bay, Mpumalanga’s Blyde River Canyon or God’s Window, the city of Durban or even a coast-to-coast tour of the West Coast – it’s up to you.

Save on costs

Car rental is cheaper than you may have thought; especially if you hire the car for an extended period of a month or more. Save on tour fees, expensive cab costs, plane tickets, bus tickets and other related costs. With a range of economic self-drive options on offer, you can save funds and boost your travel budget when you choose care hire in Cape Town or Johannesburg.

Choose from a range of cars

From simple fuel-efficient models to top of the range luxury vehicles, you can choose the car to best suit your needs. If you plan to be going off-road on a rugged self-drive safari to one of the country’s top game reserves such as Addo Elephant Park, Kruger National Park, Timbavati Game Reserve or Shamwari Game Reserve, then you will need a tough car that has four wheel drive capability. If you plan to stick to tarred roads and explore the city, then a smaller model would be best.

Enjoy excellent weather most of the year round

South Africa’s climate makes it ideal for self-drive adventures. Warm, dry summers and cool winters with hot days interspersed with rainy days, varied temperatures and conditions inland or along the coast and an overall lovely Mediterranean climate creates the perfect weather to set off on a road trip across the country. Enjoy car rental in Johannesburg or beyond, and take advantage of the country’s adventure-friendly climate.

Whether you are planning a long trip across the country, or you would prefer to take a weekend to explore one of the many thrilling regions across South Africa, self-drive offers the best way to experience South Africa at your own pace. For the most affordable and comprehensive options for car rental across South Africa, choose a reliable option that offers good rates and excellent service to get you from A to B.

As World Cup preparations kick off, many are arranging their car hire in South Africa, booking accommodation, double checking flight tickets and doing all those endless last minute travel checks that seem to arise. For those who have not yet visited the country, South Africa offers a great number of things to do aside from the main soccer events, and with the convenience of car hire, visitors can set off on mini adventures across the three major soccer cities on the days when no matches are played, to get a taste of what the country has to offer.

The three major soccer cities include the following:

1. Cape Town

As one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, Cape Town is famous for its beautiful scenery, iconic landmarks such as Table Mountain and Robben Island (where former president Nelson Mandel was jailed) and many other fascinating things to do in between. Organise car hire in Cape Town, and try the stunning Cape Wine Route that travels through key wine-producing regions such as Stellenbosch. Savour fine wines, enjoy delicious cuisine and admire the breathtaking views. Also worth trying is shark cage diving (for the thrill-seekers out there), shopping at the V&A Waterfront, a trip up the cable car, visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium or a leisurely boat cruise around the Atlantic Seaboard. All of this and so much more can be enjoyed with your car rental in Cape Town.

2. Durban

One of the best things about Durban is its warm climate, which means that you can enjoy excellent beaches even during the chilly winter months. Warm waters, endless stretches of white sand and a permanent holiday atmosphere are only the start – there are also a number of things to see and do. Try a rickshaw ride along the beachfront, sample the delicious spicy Indian delicacies (bunny chows are not to be missed!), visit the fascinating uShaka Marine World and learn more about the city’s diverse cultural heritage. You could also take a day trip with you hired car, to explore some of the attractions within the greater KwaZulu-Natal area such as the Elephant Coast, Drakensberg or St. Lucia.

3. Johannesburg

Some of the best things to do in Johannesburg include a visit to the famous township of Soweto (where many great South African leaders were born), as well as picnics at Zoo Lake, strolls down Mellville’s artsy and interesting Seventh Avenue, world-class shopping at Sandton, visits to scenic sports such Emmarentia Dam and the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, and a myriad of excellent restaurants, bars and cafes. With car hire in Johannesburg, you can choose your own adventure, and explore the city at leisure.

With so much to see and do across the country, visitors to South Africa are certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to finding things to do when they are not watching the soccer. Car rental in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban offers a fuss-free way to get around in comfort and ease, ensuring the best travel experience by far.

The South African town of Knysna is a great destination for a holiday property rental and has something for everyone.

The town, which is in South Africa’s Western Cape Province, is part of the country’s Garden Route and is located on the banks of a beautiful lagoon. Forests, lakes and beautiful beaches surround Knysna and make it a perfect base in which to explore the town itself and the surrounding area.
<br />
Knysna offers its visitors plenty to see and do. There are good shopping facilities (look out for wooden ornaments and furniture made from local forest timber), a great selection of places to eat, some fantastic outdoor activities available and an abundance of beautiful landscapes to enjoy.

The stunning scenery – and lovely weather – makes it a particularly ideal natural backdrop for a wide variety of sporting activities around Knysna.

You can go mountain biking in the lush forest, enjoy some deep-sea fishing or, if you’re feeling really brave, you can try your hand at abseiling!
If you’re into water sports, then be sure to go to Knysna Lagoon. It’s a haven for fishing and sailing. The famous Knysna seahorse is also found here and the lagoon is also home to an oyster hatchery!

However, if you’re not feeling energetic and you don’t want to get wet, then you can take a ferry trip on the lagoon. It’s worth doing and you will get a good view of the famous Knysna Heads (the two cliffs which guard the entrance to the lagoon).

While you are in this area, you should visit Featherbed Nature Reserve. You can do a 4-hour trip, which includes a short ferry trip across the lagoon to the beautiful Featherbed Nature Reserve, followed by a fascinating nature drive and an optional guided walk. You can then enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.

Knysna doesn’t have a beach, so if you’re looking for a nice beach to lie on, you should check out the beautiful sandy beach, Buffalo Bay. It is excellent for safe swimming, too, and is ideal for families. You could also visit during the beach at Brenton-on-Sea, which is great for sunbathing. Others include the beach and estuary at Noetzie and Bollard Bay on Leisure Isle.

Knysna is ideal for a family vacation and boasts some good self-catering accommodation available. Why not take a holiday property rental in this great area of South Africa?

If you’ve got children in tow, then there are plenty of suitable attractions to keep them entertained.

Be sure to take the kids to Knysna Elephant Park, which is situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The youngsters will love visiting here as they’ll be able to get up close to the elephants and will even get the opportunity to feed the animals too! Or if you’d rather watch the monkeys, head to Monkeyland, which is located at Plettenberg Bay. What is so unique about Monkeyland is that it is the world’s first multi-species free-roaming primate sanctuary. It is a fascinating experience as you are taken on a guided monkey safari. Next door to Monkeyland is Birds of Eden, which boasts the world’s largest dome with an amazing free flight bird sanctuary. It’s a great opportunity for visitors to see a large variety of birds which are able to live in a safe haven and natural environment.

This area of South Africa has so much to offer its visitors of all ages and tastes. Whether you’re looking for a sporting holiday, a relaxing break or a fun-filled family vacation, Knysna and the surrounding area has it all.
