The tree of gambling is growing and its roots expanding day by day. While few decades before the tree was deemed as a weed and left unattended, in recent years it has received immense attention and nourishment from different countries of the world. This is mainly because of two interrelated reasons- the alarming rate at which the gambling tree is bearing fruits in the form of revenue and the its unfailing involvement with people.

At present gambling is legal in several corners of the world. It is lately declared lawful in some of the Asian countries. As a result new resorts that are open to all are built at these places. For instance the city of Cambodia has come up with the Ho Wah Genting Poipet Casino Resort that bills itself as the Las Vegas of the East. The casino offes all the delightful games such as B6 Baccarat, Mini Baccarat, Blackjack, Casino War etc. In the Indian subcontinent there are six casinos in goa out of which 5 are slots-only establishments. The one full serving casino of this place is an off-shore casino on atwinn engine catamaran, Casino Goa. It is a lifetime experience to visit and play at this floating casino that offers a bar, a swimming pool and a great restaurant featuring a multi-cultural cuisine.

One such similar yet unique experience is at the casinos of hongkong. The reason being the construction of Hong Kong casinos on ships, either in port or as casino cruises. However it seems that water and casinos share a good liaison for the only casino in Laos, the Dan Sa Vanh is located along the Nam Ngum Lake. Besides gambling the other activities at the casino include boating and golf.

Gambling is made legal and so there are around 15 casinos owned and run by ht e government in Philippines. Out of these the Fontana Resort is not for the local people of this place but only for the foreigners.

If you are looking forward to delight in the beauty of snow capped mountains along with playing your favorite games such as Caribbean Stud Poker, Keno, Money Wheel, Pai Gow, Roulette, Blackjack etc., the Genting Highlands, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is just the ideal place to hit. Besides being an acclaimed tourist spot, the Genting Highlands, by virtue of these casinos are quite popular in the gaming world.

Lotteries and lottery related games are quite significant and greatly relished on the land of South Korea. South Koreans have an immense liking for lottery games. This can be well assessed from the fact that South Africans are the pioneers of online gambling, they had introduced in 2002. Along with it a new lottery game which is akin to financial winner, the Sports Toto is a gift to the gambling world by South Korea. But this place is not all about lotteries. There are other forms of gambling too such as horse racing and cycling.

Though legalization of gambling in various corners of the world is at a surge these days, yet gambling should be done within limits. Addiction of gambling is extremely fatal to the life of the gambler and his family.

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most famous tourist cities, but it is also a good place to go for recreation in East and Southeast Asia. It is has had a worldwide reputation as one of the world’s best places to shop. This makes sense since there are no sales taxes and almost no taxes at all, and it is one of China’s busiest ports, right next to the ShenZhen Special Economic Zone and the many factories in GuangDong Province. Products from around the world may be bought there at competitive prices. Business people from all over the world come to conduct business with people in Hong Kong and mainland Chinese.

It is known as the “gateway to China,” and the Chinese made products that are sold are cheaper than comparable goods that you would find in your local malls back in your home countries. With all this hustle and bustle and money exchanging hands, is there another way to have fun other than by strolling in the malls and bargaining with shop owners? There are plenty of recreational opportunities in Hong Kong. There are plenty of fun places to go, interesting things to see, and fun things to do in Hong Kong and much of this fun is free or inexpensive. Hong Kong has some of the best natural recreation areas in the region, good museums, zoos and parks that are free or inexpensive, amusement parks, an inexpensive transportation system including a cheap ferry system, lots of English language churches, and there is the fun and adventure of seeing and mixing with people from all over the world. So though Hong Kong is known as a good place to shop, to me the recreational activities is what makes Hong Kong enjoyable.

Looking at the market situation from an economic standpoint, from the many luxurious malls and stores, from all the thousands of small shops and boutiques, and from all the people hawking merchandise at tourists on the streets, there is plenty of competition to keep prices down. Labor costs in Hong Kong are still much lower than in the most of the world’s developed economies. It sits on one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, and products from all over the world are sold by merchants who have come to live there from all over the world. People from around the world go there to shop, have holidays, and enjoy the clean environment, scenery, resorts, hotels and restaurants. But if you are tired of business and shopping, people in the region looking for a place to get away from people, enjoy natural activities like hiking and swimming in a clean ocean, enjoy real Western food and enjoy some English language films or English friendly cultural activities, Hong Kong is sort of unique. This is what I found about Hong Kong. It is also interesting to watch all the world cultures merge, and see the people from all over the world.
Natural Recreation

The Chinese SAR (Special Administrative Region) of Hong Kong is covered with hills and mountains. It is wonderful to take a train or bus from the border and see green tree covered hills that seem empty. These mountains and hills are fairly steep, and until recently people have left much of the region of Hong Kong undeveloped. Especially, the region of the New Territories is still largely undeveloped. About 40% of Hong Kong is protected in 23 parks, including three marine parks and one marine reserve. Hiking trails, waterfalls, clean swimming spots and places to fish, lakes, rivers and some of Asia’s best beaches are within walking distance from the modern rapid transit train stations, and are often empty or have few visitors each day. As one person reported, “We hardly met a soul on our hikes.” Some of Asia’s best beaches and natural ocean areas are empty, but easily accessible. The 10 tallest mountain peaks all have hiking trails. Books and trail guides are easy to find in book stores and information kiosks. So for those who want to stroll or to go swimming or hiking, these still empty places in Hong Kong may be among the best places to go in East Asia.

As an example of a quick natural excursion from a ritzy mall, when I am on Hong Kong Island I like to take a 20 or 30 minute walk through the new IFC Mall that is one of Hong Kong’s most deluxe and arrive at a narrow road that climbs through a wooded park up Victoria Peak, rise above the high rises, and once reaching the top, see the great views on both the city side and the seaward side of the peak. If you really want to shop, there are two more malls to shop in on the top of Victoria Peak! Along the way, near this road is one of the coolest zoos I have ever seen, partly because it is free. I accidently walked in, trying to find my way up the hill one day, and found myself facing strange animals in cages. I thought I was in a small park, such as Chinese like to build to sit in, but found myself in one of the coolest zoos I’ve ever seen because it was clean, quiet and contained mainly primates, some of which I have never seen.

If you want to take this walk to the zoo or up Victoria Peak, the IFC Mall can be reached from Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon aboard the Star Ferry. After a 12 minute walk on the covered walkway from the ferry terminal, you’ll be in the IFC Mall. But you may have to ask directions. One thing I’ve found strange about both China and Hong Kong is how there are few signs giving directions. The mall is large and spread out over several huge buildings. From the side of the IFC that faces the mountain, you can follow more covered walkways, escalators and stairs that lead up to the road that ascends up the hill. It is difficult to find the road because there are no clear signs, but people may give directions. Next to this park is the free small zoo called the Zoological and Botanical Gardens. It is worth seeing. I describe it more below.

The hike though the park to the top of Victoria Peak takes about 35 or 40 minutes. It passes through woods, and there are places to sit along the way if you are tired. It is fairly quiet in the park, and usually only a few people, mainly foreigners, may be found walking along the road. At the top there is a mall called the Peak Tower. There are coffee shops including a Starbucks for refreshments, and there are many restaurants with views from the top of the peak. There actually are two peaks at the top of Victoria Peak with good views. The other peak is about a 15 minute walk away. From the first peak next to the malls, you can see the ocean and the shoreline from the ocean side of the island. From the second peak, there is a good view of the bay and city below. At night, the city lights are a spectacle (see my picture, taken during the day). The mall area is served by a tram, and there are buses and taxis available if you want a ride.

The city from Victoria Peak

Museums

It was really cool and fun visiting 3 museums and seeing an “Imax” movie called “The Alps” at the Space Museum this summer with some friends – all in one day. We went on the day the museums are free, so the Science Museum was crowded with kids. The museums in Hong Kong are inexpensive and interesting. Ticket prices range from 10 to 25 HKD which is only about 1.2 to about 3 US dollars. On Wednesdays, entry is free. If you are in Kowloon or Tsim Sha Tsui, the best museums are within walking distance. For busy shoppers, within easy travel distance of the busy shopping districts of Central on Hong Kong Island and of Tsim Sha Tsui are four of Hong Kong’s best museums and the Hong Kong Cultural Center.

The Museum of Art houses about 15,000 exhibits. Its focus is to preserve Chinese artistic heritage. The collection includes an impressive display of antiques, and it includes many works of art from ancient China. It also has an extensive calligraphy section.

The Hong Kong Space Museum is next door to the Museum of Art. It is a distinctive white dome shaped building. There are two collections and a large and sophisticated “Omnimax” or “Imax” style movie theater. The theater projects movies on the very large screen which is actually the roof of the building, and the audio is broadcast simultaneously via headphones in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. The Hall of Space Science collection is on the first floor, and the Hall of Astronomy is on the second floor. The space science collection features mainly Chinese astronomical instruments and charts, early Chinese rockets that were used as weapons, and rockets that were invented in the West during the last two centuries. It also includes a mockup of the American Space Shuttle cockpit that is very interesting because it is realistic and huge. The Hall of Astronomy collection instructs visitors on the solar system, stars and universe. There is also a small collection of meteorites. Some of the exhibits in the museum are interactive. It is a place to go if you like science or want to learn about the history of astronomy or space flight, or if you simply want to see an exciting super screen movie.

Like I said, I visited this Space Museum this summer. The recreations of Chinese rocket weapons were interesting. And I was amazed at the size of the Space Shuttle cockpit. It is like a jetliner, but it doesn’t look very big on TV. The dome-screened “Imax” movie threatre was really a wonderful place to be. It was clean and quiet, and I was tired. But to view the movies, people have to lie down on the chairs that are more like beds. It was really cool. I was impressed by the scenery of the Alps, and the great music. The movie touched me. It was about a climber whose father had died climbing this same peak when he was a kid. It was really moving. He accomplished his life-long dream and burden to get to the top of it.

The Science Museum is about a 25 minute walk away. It is another place to go to learn about science. It is especially a fun place for kids and for adults who like to play because most of the exhibits are interactive. There is a hall of mirrors and a sports fitness test area for example. The hall of mirrors is fun to walk through. The fitness test area was the most fun part of the museum for me. But I suggest go when there aren’t so many kids. The lines were quite long on the “free day” when I visited.

The Hong Kong Museum of History is next to the Science Museum. It has interesting “real-life” displays of Hong Kong at various times, including the British Colonial era and the Japanese invasion. There is an interesting walk-through geology and natural history exhibit. The Museum has collected about 2,800 rock and mineral specimens from the around the territory, and there are over 750 specimens of shells from local beaches. The Museum has also acquired over 1,600 animal specimens, including mammals, birds and butterflies. I liked the historical displays about Hong Kong’s recent history, but I thought that the first part of the museum with the displays of Neolithic people on a beach and the recreations of prehistoric animals and etc. was kind of hokey.

The Hong Kong Cultural Center is a large building next to the Space Museum. When I walked inside, I was struck by the huge unused space. There is a concert hall that seats about 2000 people, a theatre that seats about 1700, and a small studio theatre than can seat almost 500 people. World famous orchestras and musicians perform there. At the entrance, is a model of the whole center.

Hi all and all,

This is the last time I come to you from Asia with a new post. I’m actually in the airport of Hanoi, or I’ll take a few hours a flight to Sydney via Singapore. The Asian part of my trip it closes here and tomorrow I begin the Pacific my world tour. My last days in Asia were super well and therefore I leave the continent on a very positive as you’ll read.

On my last post, I found myself in the mountains of South Vietnam. Since I have come a long way and I even found al’extreme north of the country, on the border with China. Yesterday, j’admirai a sunset on China since the Vietnamese side of the Song Hong River! The South-North crossing of the country has been quick: 48 hours on the bus! I did not really have time to stop along the way because I got a short time … .. Between two buses, but I enjoyed for 3 hours from the beach of Nha Trang with a special thought for Raph, a friend of Sciences Po and HEC. His father was born in what was still a small fishing village at the time and is now a beautiful beach frequented by tourists. 17 hours later, I also received a 3-hour stop in Hoi An, a small historic city well preserved and classified World Heritage by UNESCO for its picturesque charm. However, 2 days and 2 nights bus, it’s hard!

The day of rest that followed allowed me to visit Hanoi. The capital of Vietnam is smaller and quieter than Saigon but aya tout de meme 3.5 million and about 2 million motorcycles. I use this day to prepare the end of my stay the best! I reserve two towers and organizations to visit Halong Bay and take a trek in the mountains of North.

After two weeks spent mostly alone, these 6 days would be a real pleasure. It was also a success for the beauty of the landscape for people rencontrees!

Halong Bay is a …. Bay in the Gulf of Tonkin or emergent of over 3,000 islands, rock pythons and rocks of all sizes. Everything looks like a huge mountain chain noyee of which we can not see that the highest peaks. The scenery is breathtaking and is nothing like what I saw auparvant! We sailed between the rocks for two days on a very nice boat with a group of 10 people. From time to time we cross floating village where boats are coming up behind us to sell box Springel … .. mass tourism has not forget to get here either. I had the opportunity to take a dip in these waters and even color emeraude to go kayaking.

Two hours after returning to Hanoi, i’m going in a night train in the direction of the mountains. 10-hour train and bus 3 hours later and I was ready for the trek for me! With Susan, German, and Naomi, English, we were a small but very friendly group. We have been accompanied by two Australian for the first day. The mountains surrounding Sapa offers landscapes and typically Asian magnfiques with terraced rice pudding of a hill and a loss of sight. Unfortunately, what I expected as a real mountain hike was closest to the parkway as mountaineering, but it does not detract from the beauty of places. For two days we have been through the villages of ethnic minorities who live in villages we imagine another time if we had not stopped every two meters by a child who asks for money or a great mother who sells memories!

These villages of minorities were very different from what I have seen in other Asian countries. Until then, I had a little trouble understanding exactly what these people in villages called “ethnic minorities” were different from the rest of the population. In Vietnam, the differences are much more glaring. First, they can hardly speak

Vietnamese but not sell you a cat in a bag in a surprising English! Second, they wear traditional clothes and very colorful. Each village makes its own clothes in his own way and its colors. It was the first time I saw such suits doors daily (I had already seen, but obviously were clearly doors only to entertain tourists). Finally, the difference is that I prefer, they are physically very different from other Vietnamese. These villagers were very small and had a very typical faces. At the beginning when I saw the faces of dozens of small women lay on the windows to watch us and then jumping to accompany us during our walk, I really believed to have debarque countries

Hobbits!

We spent the first night in a mountain village who prepare a meal of God which we share with the whole family (for us it is special, but they do them every day …). Accomapgner for these delicious dishes, our guests have left behind a bottle of the bundle of a rice wine home. And believe me, it’s tough! Like a little lost bronzes in the mountain chalet, I am allowed to go to local traditions while my two friends quickly faltered and lower the flag. I recovered ca with alcohol but in an old village the next day and I even ended up having to play musical instruments before a local group of tourists dancing! Not too likely to be completely drunk, I knew very well that the Asians would come before me (it’s always like that, the target will recognize ….)!

Voila, you now know everything, or almost all of these 7 weeks in Asia that have already been through 6 countries starting with Singapore and Thailand to Vietnam via Laos and Cambodia as well as the Burmese getaway! When I think back to dive on the island of Ko Tao in Thailand, I feel that an eternity ago. I find it hard to tell me that it was in the same trip is only 7 weeks. It must be said that the program was more than him and I do not have much traine en route. A few days’ holiday in Australia will get the greater good!

In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to. I try to give a good opinion on those places and offer some helpful advice. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to take in during your holiday in Laos.

When you visit Laos you will notice immediately how important the culture, heritage and Buddhism are to its inhabitants. Laos is located between Vietnam and Thailand in the south east of Asia. It is a beautiful country with many rivers, rugged mountains, forests, plains and plateaus. Laos has been isolated from outside influences so the tourist gets a unique view of traditional Southeast Asian life. With its fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley and the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos has got to be one of the highlights in Asia.

Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with the rainy season during the months of May to November and the roads can become washed out & the dry season starting from December to April. The weather is not too hot and there is less rainfall between November and February. The most popular time that tourists actually visit Laos are December to February but the good thing is there are not too many during these times.

For trekking or visiting the mountains, May and July are good, warm, dry months to experience them.

One of the most beautiful places in Laos is Luang Prabang and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. It is a magical ancient city that seems to have stood still in time surrounded by its mountains.

In the centre of the city of Laos is Mount Phousi. From this amazing standpoint you will witness stunning views of the hills and temples that surround it.

Khone Phapheng is considered to be the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia and with this in mind makes it an amazing place to experience. You will find this waterfall at the southern end of Si Phan Don home to the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.

The Pak Ou Caves are an absolutely spectacular sight to behold. One of the caves is filled with hundreds of statues of the Buddha which can be seen through a rugged hole in the cliff face.

If you want to see this amazing scene up close then it is possible to climb out onto the dock where the beautifully carved stones will lead you up to the entrance of the cave. There are statues of Buddha’s absolutely everywhere that you look, balancing on stone shelves, lining the stairs and in the nooks and crannies in the cave.

Pilgrims and kings have gone to the caves to worship for at least the last 500 years.

Pha That Luang is a Buddhist temple in Vientiane, Laos which was built in the 16th century. The temple was destroyed by a Thai invasion but has since been restored to its former glory. There are some people that believe that relics of the Buddha are housed in this temple. This temple has become a symbol of Lao nationalism due to the architecture including the Lao people’s culture and identity.

There is a wonderfully unique place known as the Plain Of Jars, located in the remote north east of Laos, where you will find hundreds of huge stone urns. These stone jars cover an area of several square miles and have become a great crowd puller. The urns are one of the most enigmatic ancient sights in Asia. To this day the many jars have kept their secret from the many historians who have tried to date them and discover what they actually signify.

In the province of Champasak you will find an amazing mountain Temple dating back to the 5th century which is known as Wat Phu, is an impressive ruin of Khmer style. There are a number of carved rocks above the temple site, each of them resembling different animals including a cobra, an elephant and a crocodile. Some believe that these rocks may have been used for human sacrifice in times gone by.

This summer, we had the opportunity to spend an incredible week in El Hierro, the westernmost island of the Canaries. El Hierro is a veritable paradise declared a biosphere reserve integral (title it shares only two other islands in the world), who live about 8000 people.

The origin of the iron is volcanic, and most of its territory is formed by recent lava. The costs are very high and steep, and there is no sandy beach, although there are natural pools of Tamariu.

Life in the Iron is very relaxed throughout the year, although we could see, was encouraged enough in summer due to popular festivals of the people, which of course have their verbena popular singers and orchestra with local people (not can deny that although far from the peninsula are still in Spain).

There are many iron incredible places to visit. Let’s see some of them in summary form.

The tip of Orchila: At World’s End

The tip of Orchila is the westernmost part of Spanish territory, and until 1492 was thought to be the end of the world. Until 1885, the meridian 0 passed through this place, represented by the beacon of Orchila.

The Garoé: The Holy Tree

Legend has it that at the time of the conquest had on the island of Hero (Iron at present) a tree which the natives called Garoé, and knew no other tree like scholars throughout the archipelago and known land. This was able to distill water from the fog that came to him, by its large leaves, and this is reflected in a hoquedades made on the ground by the natives of the land. There was more water in Hero than distilled the Garo. It was why the Bimbaches worshiped this tree as if it were a god, always ensuring their welfare and safety.

The holy tree is no longer the iron, but the place was always a new one was planted to represent the legend. The site can be visited to see live the pools that form there.

The ancient junipers

The Iron juniper is one of the most surprising because of the way in which these trees have been molded. The junipers that are in place, have a twisted shapes because they have been shaped over centuries by the violence of the winds and weather conditions. A place to visit indeed.

Bora Bora is located about 200 miles northwest of Tahiti, and about 3000 km south of Hawaii. Its discovery dates back to 1722, and is considered by many the most beautiful island in the world.

Its former name suggests the original inhabitants of the island (Vava’us) reached 7 million a few years from Tonga. A curious fact is that in the local Tahitian language there is no letter “B” and everybody calls the place Pora Pora, meaning first born.

Bora Bora, an outgrowth of a large volcano that is now covered by a crystal clear lagoon. Bora Bora and other nearby islands are completely surrounded by coral reefs. Its beaches, its beauty, and the reason that mass tourism has not yet reached the hidden paradise of French Polynesia, Bora Bora make an incredible destination.

I extend a little information to Travel to Bora Bora, and the spectacular video that shows some of the best prospects for the island.
