When planning a ski vacation this winter, for those that still have an income anyway, the major decision is where to go. The ski mountains of New England get a bad rap for several reasons. Too small, no snow, not enough tree skiing, no bowls etc. Many people in the Northeast buy into this and travel out West. As a person who has skied all over the US, I can attest that some of the areas in New England offer as good if not a better experience than some of the Western resorts.

Skiing New England can be all about timing. Sometimes the resorts can go weeks without new snow. I had that problem one winter when I went to ski the Cottonwood Canyons in Utah. No snow the entire week before we got there and none during our stay. A dry year for any part of the country equals bad skiing. I have had better powder days at Jay Peak Resort than most of the times I have skied at a larger a western resort. If you live in the Northeast consider this fact, at least for this winter. The prices of flights are going up. Don’t forget about paying for bags and you know how many more bags a ski trip requires than a regular flight somewhere. For the cost of your air travel you may be able to get 3 or 4 more ski days in at a New England ski resort. Okay back to snow. I will concede the western resorts tend to keep the snow they receive better than the lower elevation eastern mountains. The wild-card is that many of the eastern ski areas have invested huge amounts of money in snow-making over the last several years. When Mother Nature doesn’t bring it, they make it. It is as simple as that. Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine in a good snow year have enough tough terrain to compete with most western resorts. Check out some of the trails at Sugarbush ski resort Vermont and Mad River Glen ski resort Vermont, as well as Sugarloaf and Saddleback, both Maine ski resorts. Trails like Rumble at Sugarbush will intimidate many experts. I know they are nothing like Corbet’s Coulor at Jackson Hole or Great Scott at Snowbird but probably better than 95% of people on the mountains have no business even thinking about going near those trails. Many eastern ski mountains have been gradually expanding over the years with new terrain geared to giving skiers a broader experience especially by opening up more gladed terrain. Anyway, I think the New England ski areas will continue to get a bad rap but I think that if you give some of these areas a try, especially if you haven’t been in a few years, you may be pleasantly surprised. So when you’re planning a ski trip this year, don’t forget that there are many good ski mountains in New England. Look at your choices and see what suits your needs best and don’t forget about the money. If you allocate your money to being on the slopes instead of getting to them, it could translate into more runs this year for you.

If you go to London, the Camden Market Town is a must-see attraction. Camden Town is a district of London which is situated in the north, and is easily accessible via the stop “Underground” of the same name. Of course the district is world renowned for the incredible and crowded street market where you can find items as varied.

Surely there are hundreds of articles on the Internet who write about the different places of shopping, dining, entertainment, bars, pubs and clubs that exist in the area of Camden. But I wanted to write about it, since the articles I saw our recent trip there in December of the bridge were amazing.

* “Barely legal drugs or quasi-legal drugs suspiciously: Seeds for growing all kinds of magic mushrooms, marijuana seeds to plant,” popper, “amphetamines,” pills revitalizing “… and of course what most caught our attention: The laughing gas.

* Cases Toilet lid with the faces of Marilyn, MA, Queen Elizabeth, etc.

* Of course all kinds of shirts with obscene words, phrases, geeks, punk clothing, sinister, boots, slippers, etc..

* Impossible Gadgets: Remote Control to control women and men, gun potato ball pitcher, action figures of characters like Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Stephen Hawking, magic items, juggling …
