Life should be full of delights so that it can stay worth-living. Needless to say that traveling is one such delight. It is job of some people to travel different places and some people do it for sheer joy. Whatever the purpose is, it is always refreshing to travel.

If you are fond of traveling to distant locations and exotic places, then visiting one place becomes essential. That place is Africa. Yes-this continent is full of surprises. Natural beauty, wildlife, ethnicity, night life, food, clothing, mountains, deserts, rivers, parks, historical sights-you name it and Africa offers that to you. That is why Africa travel is in vogue.

Every African country is visual feast, be it South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana or Namibia. African continent’s wildlife safari parks and game reserves are world famous. In fact Africa travel is incomplete if you have not experienced the thrill of wildlife safari parks. Wildlife Safari is a journey of exploration via the habitats and wildlife parks of Africa. It’s a great learning experience about mammals and birds of Africa. This experience is the best way to see natural beauty of the African habitats and wildlife reserves.

Also, as far as choosing a particular African country is concerned then South Africa is all time favorite of travelers. It is truly a rainbow nation. You can plan to visit there through South Africa Travel Agent. This particular region is famous for wildlife options. Some of the major attractions of this place are Addo Elephant National Park, Cape Peninsula National Park, Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, Kruger National Park and Phinda Private Game Reserve.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t mater you are visiting which African country, Africa travel is visual feast for every traveler. And for adventure tourists this continent is next to heaven. Be there to feel it.

To locals, Johannesburg, the largest area of South Africa, is endearingly Joburg or Jozi; and when you happen to be carried out with your check out to this teeming metropolitan town, there is likely being a tiny endearment or two you have in mind for this place yourself.

Johannesburg is really a vibrant town of excellent extremes. It has deep roots in European culture at the same time as African culture; there exists business, culture and art on the highest order in its old entire world atmosphere and its glittering skyscrapers; and you will discover miles of shantytowns, traffic that knows no laws, and individuals, individuals everywhere. The city is household to some in the worst apartheid atrocities actually identified of; and it is the house of an inspiring freedom have difficulty.

Whenever you go to South Africa, journey to Johannesburg has being the highlight of your trip; the metropolis could possibly be a bit risky in a number of its seedier areas, but most on the areas you would desire to venture to are fairly fantastic.

Let’s cover a few of Jozi’s greatest offbeat attractions in pubs and restaurants, art galleries and every thing else. Let’s begin with Arts on Principal, an exciting bunch of shops, all hidden away in a reclaimed warehouse proper inside center with the area. The entire enterprise is often an aspect in the city’s plans to take advantage on the historical past that the area possesses. There are galleries and tiny bohemian shops by the dozen that must easily take up a couple of hours spent exploring. Check out http://www.travelplaninfo.com for facts.

If you would like a piece of history for your South Africa vacation plans this time, test the Industry Theater, otherwise regarded as the Theater on the Wrestle. In the course of apartheid times, the theater’s management felt that art could have a wonderful contribution to make on the country’s political battle, and regularly put up shows that challenged the government’s policies. A pay a visit to there today, and you’ll see some of the best that South Africa’s arts and music scene has to offer you. Examine out http://www.travelplaninfo.com for facts.

Keeping with all the apartheid theme, how about a trip out for the suburb of Soweto, a massive place that all blacks in Johannesburg were forced to leave for every evening within the apartheid era, after their work within the metropolis was carried out? Soweto featured prominently within the country’s freedom struggle, and is home to hundreds of thousands black South Africans. Issues aren’t as desperate around right here as they once have been. The economy in Soweto is booming, and the energy inside air is palpable. It would have to be, what with two Nobel Peace Prize winners living there, on the exact same street (Vilakazi Street) no much less. What South Africa journey plan will be complete without having a stop by to Nelson Mandela’s household (converted into a museum now)? For a little authentic Soweto cuisine, try the Nambitha Eatery, the Sakhumzi Restaurant and Wandies Location. You could be in for any treat with ox tail stew along with other South African delicacies.

When you really want to obtain in touch with all the earth in South Africa, travel towards globe heritage internet site with the Cradle of Humankind. It’s just a half-hour’s drive outside the metropolis, and right here you will uncover stunning exhibits of precisely where it can be that the human race came from. The Sterkfontein Caves are a portion with the tour, and they contain the oldest fossils of pre-Homosapien primates actually discovered. Or how about trying the web site of 1 on the lustiest gold rushes ever, the Old Kromdraai Gold Mine?

Africa travel is an incredibly rewarding experience. It is a land like no other with unprecedented nature viewing, breathtaking landscapes, and extraordinary cultural experiences. In order to be able to fully enjoy your experience, a bit of preparation is necessary before you get on your journey. The most important part of planning your trip is making sure you have all the necessary shots and documentation required for the countries you are visiting. Taking care of these requirements well ahead of time will lead to an enjoyable and hassle-free holiday.

Making sure that you have all the crucial vaccines and immunizations for Africa travel is imperative. As certain shots, like rabies vaccinations, come in a series, you need to get them well ahead of time. All specifications are different according to country, but most universally need the usual childhood vaccinations for Polio, diphtheria, tetanus, measles, rubella, mumps and Hepatitis B. It is important to remember that although you might have gotten these shots as a child, you should check with your doctor as you might need a booster.

As many countries have specific health requirements, which can change at any time, your best bet is to consult the embassy of the countries to which you are planning to travel. One of the most common requirements is a yellow fever vaccine. Therefore, if your travel itinerary is subject to change, this shot might be a good safeguard allowing you the most flexibility. Another major concern for Africa travel is malaria and all travelers should strongly consider having anti-malaria medication. Most countries in Africa have at least some incidence of malaria and the preventative treatment takes six weeks to complete so it is crucial to plan ahead.

Proper documentation is also something that you will require to take care of well before your departure. As with the health regulations, passport and visa requirements are specific to each country. Along with a good travel agency, your best place for information is your embassy in the countries you are visiting. Some only require a passport and some also require a visa. Time required to obtain a passport always varies and visas can take up to two months to complete. Therefore, having a general idea of which countries you plan to visit ahead of time will be invaluable when acquiring these documents. Although Africa travel takes some planning, thinking ahead will allow you to enjoy all that this marvelous continent has to offer.

Weather in South Africa

South Africa’s hottest and busiest time is during the UK winter months of November to March. This is also the busiest period for tourists and locals. For a cooler temperature and less busy period, the UK summer months of July and August are a good time to go. When I visited South Africa in July and August the weather was mainly sunny and warm but not too hot so this was the best time for me to travel. It was perfect for all activities. It was nice and quiet at this time too, and this is the cheapest time to visit South Africa. I made sure I read a lot of South Africa Travel Tips before I travelled to ensure I travelled at the best time for me, which was July and August as I prefer the milder temperatures.

How to get to South Africa

The main airports are Johannesburg International Airport and Cape Town International. Flights normally take 12 hours. I flew from Manchester to Amsterdam to Johannesburg on the way there, and on the way back from Cape Town (extra £50 and extra 2 hours) to Johannesburg, to Amsterdam back to Manchester. On the way there this took about 12 hours and was all during the day so left first thing in the morning and got there in the evening, but on the way back I spent about 36 hours getting home as I had long delays between my different connections. I found Johannesburg very busy and had in fact managed to collect a lot more luggage than I started out with, but there is a place to store your luggage in the basement so you can wait for your flight without carrying all your bags around with you.

Getting around South Africa

As a general guide, public transport in South Africa isn’t very reliable but the roads are good so it’s easy to hire a car, or the Baz Bus is a very affordable hop-on-hop-off bus service for backpackers which is an excellent way to meet like minded people. You can also book an organised tour which can also be very economical. I used all three methods of transport during my travels. I started off with an organised tour which was a great way to ease me into travelling alone as you get to know new people really well, then I used the Baz Bus and met hundreds of people all travelling the same route as me, then I hired a car with 2 of the people I had become friends with on the trip. This was a great way to see South Africa by splitting the cost and having more freedom to go where we wanted to in South Africa. The best South Africa Travel Tip I can give you is to make sure you trust people before putting yourself in vulnerable positions.

Time Difference in South Africa from the UK

South Africa is 2 hours ahead of GMT and 1 hour ahead of BST, so when I travelled in the summer, I only had a time difference of 1 hour. That was excellent as it meant no jet lag!

Currency in South Africa

The South African currency is the Rand (R). At the time of writing the Rand is weaker than the pound, Euro and Dollar which means you get a lot for your money. Eating out, accommodation and top attractions will be very affordable. Credit Cards can be used in most areas. I remember staying in the most beautiful hostel in the Drakensburg Mountains having a room to myself with gorgeous views, all for the equivalent of about £3 per night. There are many hostel reviews online you can read to decide where to stay. I ate out most nights and the quality of food was excellent in most places for very little money.

I hope these South Africa Travel tips will help you to plan the holiday of your dreams.

By James Asudi(CEO – Victoria Safaris)

Tourism is a dynamic profession and an ever changing field. I ever in tourism” despite several cancellations of already booked and confirmed trips in the African continent. With the diminishing numbers of wildlife due to global warming and human / wildlife conflict for the limited natural resources, Victoria safaris is putting its effort in creating New Africa Mountain hiking packages, Beach Holidays and Bush Safaris, Community and Cultural tourism packages and Adventure Travel in the Eastern Horn of the African continent which includes; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. These packages have limited visits to the Wildlife sanctuaries and are more oriented to the Communities living and co existing in the African wilderness.

Wildlife and Human Conflicts over Limited Natural Resources

World over, there is a shortage of land and water. This has resulted in human beings encroaching into the wildlife territory for land and water. God created man, Fauna and Flora and expected all to co exist on Earth. To day, man has over populated the earth and is destroying with impunity the Flora. The effect is that there is limited rain fall and as such in Africa, the destruction of tropical forests by man has led to serious famine and lack of water for the African populace and wildlife.

Imagine if the wildlife would be talking, in which court would we be sued on earth. Imagine if the wildlife had the ability to make ammunition to fight man, what world war would be on earth between the wildlife and humans? Let us respect our Fauna and Flora. The Laureate Prof. Wangare Mathai said; “If you destroy Nature, Nature will destroy you”

In view of the above, Victoria Safaris is encouraging Eco tourism in Africa and emphasizing in creation of new tourism packages leading to Africa Adventure Tours, Community and Cultural tourism plus beach holidays with limited visits into wildlife sanctuaries. Among the new packages that Victoria safaris have come with for the year 2009 and beyond include the following packages.

Travel destinations will never be complete without featuring an array of beaches, overwhelming views, and a wonderful food trip. South Africa is lucky enough to have all of these in its options. Its geographic location provides it with a long stretch of coastlines edging the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

The capital city of the country, Pretoria, features The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa which covers an Aquarium, a Reptile Park and a zoo. Accommodation South Africa is provided by many resorts that have its own specialties. It houses the third largest collection of exotic trees while the aquarium holds the title of the largest inland marine aquarium in South Africa. A restaurant located at the center of the Zoo serves both snacks and meals for the visitors and Kiosks provide drinks and other refreshments. The Zoo also has the Zoo Choo-Choo Tractor Train which tours you through different parts of the zoo. Plus, cable car rides allow you a breathtaking view of the zoo and the surrounding city. And the Zoovenir gives you a great variety of items to take home.

Cape Town owns magnificent beaches that have gained fame and popularity. Its Table Mountain grants you eye-popping views of its beaches and city. Revolving cable cars can bring you to this mountain which stands 1086 meters above sea level. The oyster capital of South Africa, Garden Route, supplies you with different fun activities including dolphin spotting. It also allows you free wine and cheese tasting. After all, it provides with some of the world’s best wine.

Port Elizabeth, found along the Algoa Bay, features several historical sites including the Historic Donkin Heritage trail that has an Old Hill area which covers 47 historical sites. Port Elizabeth also holds different water sports such as diving, surfing, and boardsailing all year. Parks such as St. Georges Park which highlights the world renowned Port Elizabeth Cricket Club are also one of the attractions here. The Bowling Green, Prince Alfred’s Guard Memorial and the Victorian Pearson Conservatory are all situated inside St Georges Park. Another Park, the Settler’s Park, is proud to own one of the wild life reserves in Port Elizabeth.

Another attraction that makes tourists travel South Africa is the Drakensberg Mountains. This wonderful landform hosts various fun-filled activities such as camping, mountaineering, bird watching, and many others. Many of the resorts found in Drakensberg have the facilities to cater horseback riding along the hillside. The steep trails also provide a challenge to mountain bikers. For the wildlife lovers who travel South Africa, this area is home to the quarter of the indigenous wildlife in the whole of South Africa.

The Kruger National Park is another favorite for tourists who travel South Africa. It is simply the perfect destination for wild life livers because it shelters 147 mammal species, 507 species of birds and 114 different reptile species. It houses 3000 hippopotamuses and just as much crocodiles in its rivers. Impala antelopes which are around 90,000 species dominate the area. 30,000 Zebras and 15,000 buffaloes are also some of the inhabitants of this wonderful park. And another 5,000 giraffes and 8,000 elephants share their space. 1,500 ferocious lions, 900 leopards, and 300 cheetahs are also inhabitants of the savanna.

The African continent covers 30 million sq km (12 million sq mi), including its adjacent islands. It stretches 8,000 km (5,000 mi) from its northernmost point, Ra’s al Abya? in Tunisia, to its southernmost tip, Cape Agulhas in South Africa. The maximum width of the continent, measured from the tip of Cap Vert in Senegal, in the west, to Raas Xaafuun (Ras Hafun) in Somalia, in the east, is 7,500 km (4,700 mi). The highest point on the continent is the perpetually snowcapped Kilimanjaro (5,895 m/19,341 ft) in Tanzania, and the lowest is Lake ‘Asal (153 m/502 ft below sea level) in Djibouti.Africa is surrounded by oceans and seas: the Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Indian Ocean on the east, the Red Sea on the northeast, and the Mediterranean Sea on the north. Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, lies off the southeastern coast. Other offshore islands include the Madeira Islands, Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, São Tomé, Príncipe, and Bioko, off the western coast; and the Comoros Islands, Seychelles, Mascarene Islands, and Socotra, off the eastern coast.

Africa generally consists of a series of flat and gently undulating plateaus occurring at different levels, broken by a few mountainous areas and by the rift valleys of East Africa. With a mean elevation of approximately 650 m (2,100 ft) above sea level, Africa is high compared to other continents. The southern and eastern section of the continent, often called High Africa, consists primarily of a high plateau with elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 m (3,000 and 7,000 ft) above sea level. Northern and western Africa, widely known as Low Africa, has much lower mean elevations. Most of the continent’s surface has been warped into a series of large, saucer-like basins separated by highlands. The major basins of Africa are El Djouf, now occupied by the Niger River Basin in West Africa; the Chad Basin, surrounding Lake Chad in west central Africa; the Sudan (or Nile River) Basin in northeast Africa; the Congo River Basin of Central Africa; and the Kalahari (or Okavango) Basin of southern Africa.a.

Africa’s other major mountainous regions occur at the northern and southern fringes of the continent. The Atlas Mountains, a system of high ranges, extend for 2,200 km (1,400 mi) across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, roughly parallel to the northern coast. These ranges enclose a number of broad inland basins and plateaus. In the west, the High (or Grand) Atlas contains Toubkal (4,165 m/ 13,665 ft), the highest peak of the system. Toward the east, the Atlas consists of two parallel ranges: the Tell Atlas to the north and the Saharan Atlas to the south.
The Drakensberg Mountains in eastern South Africa form part of the Great Escarpment, a ridge that divides the central plateau regions of southern Africa from the lowland regions on the coast. Extending from Limpopo Province south to the province of Eastern Cape, the Drakensbergrange contains the highest elevations in South Africa. For more storyhttp://africanslegends.blogspot.com

The Great Rift Valley is one of the most distinctive features of African topography. Formed where Earth’s crust is being pulled apart by the action of convection currents beneath the surface, rift valleys are long, deep valleys bounded by parallel faults, or fractures, in Earth’s crust. The Great Rift Valley system begins in Syria, in the Middle East, and extends southward, down the length of the Red Sea. It enters Africa at the Afar Depression on the coast of Eritrea and Djibouti, and winds some 5,600 km (3,500 mi) to the coast of southern Mozambique. In its middle section, it breaks into two major branches, the Eastern Rift Valley and the Western Rift Valley. The rift valley is flanked by towering escarpments of up to 1,000 m (3,000 ft) in southern Ethiopia, 1,500 m (4,900 ft) along the Eastern Rift in central Kenya, and 1,300 m (4,300 ft) in the northern part of the Western Rift, along the DRC’s border with Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. The southern extremities of the rift system are much less spectacular in size and appearance. For more information, see the Faulting and Rift Valleys section of this article.Several major lakes, typically long and narrow, are located on the floors of the Western and Eastern rift valleys. The Western Rift contains Lake Albert, Lake Edward, and Lake Kivu to the north, Lake Tanganyika in the middle, and Lake Malawi (Lake Nyasa) to the south. The lakes of the Eastern Rift tend to be smaller and include Lake Naivasha, Lake Natron, and the southern part of Lake Turkana.
