Tiananmen Square in Beijing

Tiananmen Square in Peking (Beijing) is the world’s largest square with an area of 40 hectares. Located in central China’s capital is a symbol for the country and the communist regime since its construction was made after the coming to power of the regime of Mao Zedong, when large buildings were demolished to make room for the plaza.

The reason for this construction was to have a great public space where popular demonstrations. In fact, during the popular revolution Mao Zedong presided over parades in this vast desert paved up to one million people. In 1976, the same amount of people packed the square to depedida the deceased leader.

Place one point topped the headlines of every newspaper in the world when in 1989 the tanks and soldiers cracked down on anyone who was in favor of democracy. Student revolt that we will remain etched in our minds by the image of a young student stood up to army tanks.

Usually there are many people walking, children flying kites and a large number of street vendors of refreshments for visitors.

On the north side, the square is bordered by the emperor’s Forbidden City, while in the middle of it we can see the monument to the People’s Heroes, with an enrollment of Chairman Mao, which says “the people’s heroes are immortal.
