We Need More Ski Terrain in Western North Carolina!
Altitude Affects Attitude Here in Asheville & Western NC - Millions of visitors have been attracted to the high mountains of North Carolina to escape the humid stifling heat of the summer climate at points south ranging from Virginia to Florida, and Alabama to Tennessee. Our cool temperatures are often 15 to 20 degrees cooler than our crowded cities and congested suburbs plus they provide the perfect climate for hiking, horseback riding, golf, tennis, rafting and biking.
In the winter, these same high altitude mountains and almost Canadian climate allow exciting winter sports activities from downhill skiing and boarding to tubing, cross-country skiing and snowshoe adventures hundreds of miles south of lower elevation locations further north. It is no accident that Wolf Laurel and other high NC mountain locations actually receive more snow than cities like Boston, New York, Denver and even Salt Lake City, Utah.
We are happy to see the expansions in terrain taking place here in our North Carolina mountains, especially the new lodge, lift and slopes here at Wolf Laurel Ski Resort. But weekend over crowding at all of our resorts show the desperate need for more ski terrain, new resorts and now we are surveying the skiing public about interest in the new concept here in the South of a private "members only" ski resort development.
The Growing Problem You Observe But No One Talks About - The growing problem for vacationers
and second home buyers alike is the accessibility and popularity of western NC is making some locations in the region quite crowded and congested. Many summer visitors to open public activities find their escape to our cool climate marred by the same traffic congestion and delays they are trying to escape from.
Tee times at public golf courses become unobtainable, tennis courts are unavailable and wild country hiking and horseback riding sometimes are beginning to resemble a crowded fair or team sports event. The long wait for a table and crowded conditions become even more difficult when you want to quietly enjoy a great meal in a first class restaurant or want some relaxed elegance in a private luxury hotel or bed & breakfast. Escaping to your personal private mountain resort home or retreat should be a private quality experience with subdued excellence and your choice of meeting friends and associates who share your passion for mountains rather than exchanging a crowded metropolitan area for the same masses of people in the mountains.
The Dream of Every Southern Winter Sports Enthusiast! - We all dream of skiing untracked powder, quiet vistas and solitude with long distance views and open slopes while enjoying a great meal, drinks and fun with a few choice friends? How about a quiet, upscale controlled environment where a helpful staff and concierge service take care of your every need from a bottle of wine and cheese on the slopes, to individual ski and boarding lessons, ski tuning, private dinner reservations, an afternoon fondue or skiing and snow shoeing under the stars.
The Reality of Weekend Skiing in the East Is Often Far Different! In the once quiet and peaceful summer resorts of the high South, the few locations high and cold enough also for winter sports have found the peak summer visitors and activities dwarfed by the winter weekend crowds. With so few winter resorts within driving distance of southern cities; the result is often traffic jams, parking congestion, lift and food lines and ski slope congestion in the winter almost every weekend. The problem is thousands of experienced skiers and boarders must compete on limited terrain with tens of thousands of learners, first time winter sports enthusiasts and ski school groups.
The result is often chaos, frustration and the dreams and fantasy of untracked powder, becoming one with nature and snow excitement confronted by the reality of too many people from all over the south jammed into a few ski resorts and terrain where all abilities end up having a poor winter sports experience.
Our NC ski traffic often doubles on weekends when the forecast of a major snow storm brings out skiers and snow watchers from as far away as south Florida heading to our mountains. They often arrive without winter driving skills or the required four wheel drive necessary to drive many of our narrow, twisting two lane roads with steep grades and narrow hairpin turns. All too often, the grades and lack of four wheel drive turn our two-lane mountain highways into vast snow filled parking lots adding hours of time and frustration to your weekend ski trip. While Southern skiers and boarders need more slopes and resorts within weekend driving distance even if we doubled the terrain and upgraded the resorts this would not solve the problem. There are simply too many winter sports enthusiasts in the region and too little mountain terrain with the cold climate and vertical elevation necessary for winter sports play down here in Dixie.
There Is A Better Way! - There is a new 21st Century solution to the mountain resort problem of weekend overcrowding, ski slope congestion and over development. We have been approached by some investors who love winter sports and uncrowded summer mountain activities to conduct a survey of Southern mountain winter and summer sports enthusiasts to determine if there is sufficient interest in developing or buying an existing resort to take it to a higher level of a private "members only" mountain club where summer crowds and winter congestion on the ski slopes, at restaurants and other activities become a curse of the past.
Gone will be lift lines, crowded slopes, tasteless ski resort fast food and congested parking and accommodations. Imagine your own private resort open only Friday through Sunday night and holiday periods where it will be possible to ski unpacked powder on Friday that fell days before. Where quality entertainment, gourmet restaurants and private bars offer the best in food, drink and nightlife in a secure, gated, controlled environment where you share all the mountain has to offer with your other member friends and associates from across the region. After all, you have a passion for the mountains, for the outdoors and where your hard work and success have earned you the opportunity to get the most out of your private quality resort.
Here just north of the major tourist destination of Asheville, NC, conveniently off the new I-26 freeway in the area surrounding Wolf Laurel Resort, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, the Preserve and Mountain Air Country Club, we have the acreage, the terrain, the climate, amenities and the access to create your "members only" Mountain High Club.
